Seeds are a favorite of children as they germinate. This is particularly true when seeds sprout quickly. Alfalfa is an easy-to-grow seed that should grow within a week. To observe the seeds sprout you can sprinkle some alfalfa seedlings on a sheet of wet paper towel.
You’ll need:
a packet of alfalfa seeds (about 1.5g)
A small bowl or small plate
Three paper towels
A spray mister or زراعة بذور الملوخية small water container
How to grow
Put 3 sheets of paper towel on a dish.
After that, you should drain the water off the plate. The paper towel must be damp, but the seeds shouldn’t be floating in the water.
Spread the seeds out evenly on the paper towel.
Put the paper towel on a sunny window and add water to prevent the paper towel from drying out. To dampen seeds, make use of a spray bottle or mister. Also, add water into the saucer by using an ice cube or small jug.
Every day, check your seeds to observe how they’re growing.
Troubleshooting
Alfalfa seeds are easy to plant and should begin to germinate in 2-6 days. If seeds don’t sprout during this time, here are a few possible reasons why things went wrong:
Too dry. Seeds require water to grow. Seeds of alfalfa absorb approximately half their weight in water before they germinate, which makes them appear swollen. Seeds that are not moist enough will not germinate. Make sure to add more water to your plate so the seeds are damp but not floating on the surface. It is also possible to soak the seeds overnight. Be sure to drain them and rinse them well before transferring them to a towel.
Too wet: Seeds that are too wet may cause their roots and shoots to turn brown before they grow. Also, it is possible that mould can begin to develop on the seeds. While it’s perfectly acceptable for the paper towel as well as the seeds to be damp but they shouldn’t be submerged in water. Every time you mist or water seeds, remove the excess water.
Too cold or too hot: Alfalfa grows best at 20-25°C. If you’re growing your seeds indoors in winter, set them in a warm area. You might need to water your seeds more frequently when you plant them in extreme temperatures. They’ll dry faster.
